Ruhl's tale, impeccably directed by Maura Hanlon, is lovely and moving, enhanced by anguished and tender performances...

Maura Hanlon’s superb direction ensured that this was a polished production with fabulous casting that provided an energetic and enthusiastic performance that was simply memorable. The impressive set, special effects and skillful choreography all added to the magic. Best of all, it showcased the powerful pull that fabulous storytelling has on us all.

Peter Pan and wendy

Cape Rep Theatre has opened its 2008 season with a strong ensemble performance guided by the exquisite directing of Maura Hanlon.  Lanford Wilson’s Fifth of July is seamlessly touching, humorous, outrageous, and, above all, entertaining from start to finish.

fifth of july

Maura Hanlon‘s skillful direction and a top-notch cast produce a sizzling, poignant production on the Cape Rep Theatre stage. Hanlon‘s imaginative staging lends a fantasy-like quality to the play.

Winter wheat

Maura Hanlon’s directing is fiercely intelligent. Something beautiful is created onstage with the heartfelt, honest script and masterful directing. Flashbacks are overlapped with the present and the result is that the characters are continuously living with the history from which they sprung, the ghosts of the past. This interaction between the previous life and the one that now exists is a tender, gorgeous dance.

This soon-to-be-graduate of the UCSD directing program turned out two of the best university shows in the county...  A revealing studio production of The Playboy of the Western World, practically sculptural in its use of space, and more recently a Winter’s Tale that offered some unusually perceptive responses to this problematic Shakespearean text.  Some of Hanlon’s images in the latter--the open grave with the protruding, grasping human hands, waiting to take the dead prince Mamillius to his final rest--linger still.

Good Bye Mary Rose

Writer-director Maura Hanlon seemed to have read every ghost story ever written and then thrown away the rule book in a creepy play that was surprising in its psychological complexity and added up to a profound statement about lost youth.

Anna Christie

Cape Rep’s O’Neill is spellbinding

Cape Rep Theater’s Anna Christie is a gorgeous, powerful show that will catch you in an undertow of sorrow and humor, violence and hope, then release you to the shore of redemption. This breathtaking portrayal of O’Neill’s 1922 Pulitzer Prize-winning play is not to be missed.

dinosaur pirates from outerspace!

“They zigged when we zagged so we’re safe for now!” Tricera’s words were a comfort to the many spellbound children in the audience at Cape Rep’s morning show. “Dinosaur Pirates from Outer Space” may sound scary, and may even look a little scary, but you’ll find yourself laughing a lot more then shivering your timbers!

Maura Hanlon, the writer of this zany show, is the mother to three boys who we’re guessing love pirates, dinosaurs and outer space. Hanlon’s cleverly written script and catchy lyrics are sure to enchant young children age 3 and up. Adults will appreciate it, too.

...an opium den run by Princess Puffer, a Cockney-accented Maura Hanlon who is wonderful in any number she's in.

Maura Hanlon gives a deliciously over-the-top portrayal of the diva of the troupe and Princess Puffer, the decadent madam of the opium den.
